Symptoms
Symptoms of acute bacterial sinusitis (ABS) often follow a cold or other upper respiratory tract infection that does not improve.
Symptoms of chronic sinusitis are the same as for acute sinusitis but are usually milder and last longer than eight weeks. Some or all of the following symptoms may suggest that you have ABS:
- No relief from decongestants, and/or
- Symptoms that get worse instead of better after your cold has gone
- Toothache
- Facial pain
- Headache
- A lot of bright yellow or green discharge from your nose for more than 10 days
- A cough that is often worse at night
- Fatigue and generally not feeling well
- Fever (a high temperature)
No one symptom necessarily means you have ABS. If you are concerned that you may have ABS you should visit your doctor who will be able to talk about the best course of treatment for you.
